
District representatives will be assigned to specific geographic Districts of Margate which will offer several significant benefits.
*Ensures that every area of our city has a voice because residents will have a specific person to contact about neighborhood specific concerns.
*Develop a better understanding of local issues (infrastructure, aesthetics, traffic, safety, etc)
*Greater accountability – these representatives are responsible for a smaller, defined segment of our community
*District based representation can help ensure that city resources, services, and investments (such as road repairs, signage, safety, etc) are distributed more fairly across the city
*Encourage civic involvement – residents are more likely to engage with these representatives
*Better of understanding of local needs
*Provides a more diverse perspective for more informed decision making
*Enhanced responsiveness to crises
*Facilitates participatory planning – planning development and revitalization efforts will benefit from local input. These reps can act as liaisons between planners and residents, ensuring developments reflect community needs.
Informal District Division of Margate
Margate’s street grid can be segmented using two primary roads:
- Atlantic Boulevard (State Road 814): Running east-west, this road can serve as the horizontal axis.
- State Road 7 (U.S. Route 441): Running north-south, this road can serve as the vertical axis.
Using these roads as dividing lines, Margate can be informally divided into four Districts:
- Northwest (NW) District: Located north of Atlantic Boulevard and west of State Road 7.
- Northeast (NE) District: Located north of Atlantic Boulevard and east of State Road 7.
- Southwest (SW) District: Located south of Atlantic Boulevard and west of State Road 7.
- Southeast (SE) District: Located south of Atlantic Boulevard and east of State Road 7.
